H1B Visa Stamping - Chennai Consulate Experience 2025

Just got my H1B visa stamp at Chennai consulate! My 4th time there. Sharing everything.

My situation:

  • H1B extension approved (3rd extension)
  • Needed new stamp (old one expired)
  • Working for large tech company

Timeline:

  • DS-160 submitted: September 2025
  • Appointment date: October 2025
  • Interview: 5 minutes
  • Passport returned: 3 days later

Documents I carried:

  • Passport (current + old)
  • DS-160 confirmation
  • Appointment letter
  • H1B approval notice (I-797)
  • All previous H...

Saving this for my next India trip! I'll need to get my H1B stamped eventually. Chennai seems more straightforward than Delhi from what I've heard. Any tips for which consulate to choose if you have flexibility?

@priya_h1b_journey Chennai and Hyderabad are generally considered the most efficient for H1B stamping. Mumbai and Delhi have higher volumes so sometimes more delays.

That said, all consulates follow the same process. Choose based on:

  1. Where you have family nearby
  2. Appointment availability
  3. Where you're comfortable traveling

I choose Chennai because my parents are there and I can stay with them while waiting for passport.
