Asylum Approved - Now Applying for Green Card

My asylum case was approved after 3 years of waiting. Now I'm applying for green card (1 year after approval as required). Sharing my journey.

My asylum timeline:

  • Applied: March 2022
  • Interview: July 2022
  • Referred to immigration court: September 2022
  • Court hearings: Multiple over 2 years
  • Approved: August 2025

Now filing for GC:

  • Filing I-485 (adjustment of status)
  • 1 year waiting period complete
  • Principal applicant + spouse (derivative)

Thank you for sharing your asylum journey! It gives hope to others in similar situations. The immigration system is complicated but stories like yours show that persistence pays off.

For asylum-based GC, I've heard it's relatively straightforward since you've already been through extensive vetting. Good luck with your filing!
