Traveling on Advance Parole - My 3 Trip Experience

I've traveled internationally on Advance Parole (AP) 3 times while I-485 was pending. No issues. Here's what I learned.

My trips:

  1. India - 2 weeks (family wedding)
  2. Canada - 5 days (work conference)
  3. Europe - 10 days (vacation)

Documents I carried every time:

  • Valid AP document (combo card)
  • I-485 receipt notice
  • I-140 approval notice
  • Employment letter
  • Recent pay stubs
  • Passport with all visas
  • Copy of pending I-485

At port of entry (US):

Thank you for sharing! I was so nervous about traveling on AP for my grandfather. This makes me feel better. I'll make sure to have all the documents ready.

Did CBP ever ask why you were traveling? Or just process you through?

@maria_i485_pending For my India trip, CBP asked "purpose of travel?" and I just said "family visit." That's it. For Canada (work conference), they asked what company I work for. For Europe vacation, they didn't ask anything about purpose.

Keep answers short and don't over-explain. You're a legal parolee with a pending permanent residence application. Nothing unusual.
