H4 to H1B Success - My Journey

Was on H4 dependent visa for 5 years while my spouse was on H1B. Finally got my own H1B! Here's how.

My situation:

  • H4 since 2020
  • Had H4 EAD (spouse's I-140 approved)

This gives me hope! I'm on H4 EAD now but always thought about getting my own H1B. Did you need any specific credentials or was your work experience enough for the H1B petition?

@aisha_h4_ead I have a Master's degree in Marketing which helped. For H1B, you generally need at least a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the job. Work experience can substitute in some cases (3 years experience = 1 year of college, roughly).

The hardest part is getting employer sponsorship. Build your career, prove your value, and ask your employer if they'd consider it. Many are willing once they see your contribution!

Don't give up - it took me 3 lottery attempts but I made it.
