Finally Got My Green Card After 7 Years - Complete Timeline

After 7 long years, I finally received my green card in the mail today! Here's my complete journey for those in the EB2 India queue.

My Timeline:

2017:

  • H1B approved (3rd lottery attempt)
  • Started GC process with employer

2018:

  • PERM filed: February
  • PERM approved: July (5 months)
  • I-140 filed: August
  • I-140 approved: December

2019-2023:

  • Waiting for priority date to become current
  • Changed jobs twice using H1B transfer (I-140 was already approved)
  • Renewed EAD three times

7 years! And here I am at 5 years waiting. Your timeline gives me hope though. Congrats on finally getting it!

Congratulations! Quick question - you said you changed jobs twice after I-140 approval. Did you face any issues? I'm thinking of changing jobs but worried about complications.

@nikhil_pd_current No issues at all! Once I-140 is approved and you've maintained status, you can change jobs freely. The I-140 stays valid. Just make sure to keep copies of everything - you'll need the priority date when you file I-485.

I used H1B transfer for the job changes, so I didn't use AC21 portability. But both paths work.
