L1A to EB1C - Timeline and Requirements

General

I'm currently on L1A as a manager for a multinational company. Exploring the EB1C route for green card. Would love to hear from others who have done this.

My current situation:

  • L1A visa holder for 2 years
  • Manager with 15 direct reports
  • Company: Fortune 500
  • Office: US subsidiary of Indian parent company

Questions about EB1C:

  1. What are the exact managerial requirements?
  2. How long do I need to be in managerial role?
  3. Can I change companies after EB1C is approved?

I'm going through EB1C right now! Here's what I know:

  1. Managerial requirements: Must manage professionals OR manage a function/department. Managing only first-line supervisors isn't enough.
  2. One year abroad within last 3 years is required.
  3. Can change companies AFTER green card approval, not during process.
  4. Timeline: I-140 takes 4-6 months regular, 15 days premium. Then I-485 processing.
  5. For India-born: Still subject to per-country limits, so not that much faster than EB2.

The advantage of EB1C is no PERM required, which saves 1-2 years!
